Approximately 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the area, generating wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.
Substantial Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage
Residents observed large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews working to address the extensive power failures.
Victorian Weather Woes
Simultaneously, nearly 1,000 households in Victoria also faced power outages after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in 18 months.
Rescue organizations responded to 598 calls for help across the region, mostly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

Meteorological Predictions
Moist weather were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.
The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk predicted across different parts of both regions.
Health Warning
Medical authorities alerted that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
This warning comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the area.
