The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
